Students showcase the Best of British

Students showcase the Best of British

Posted: 16th December 2019

The musical talents of young people were showcased during a school performance.

Students at Epping St John’s Church of England School took to the stage for the Best of British showcase.

A group of 150 singers and dancers from all year groups performed, while their peers took care of the technical side of the show.

Performances came from the school’s dance company, GCSE dance students, Key Stage 3 dancers, soloists and ensembles from across all year groups and, for the first time, members of the new ukulele club and show choir.

The school is working to expand its creative and musical offer and is developing opportunities for students to perform throughout the year.

Cristin Casey, BMAT director of performing arts, said: “This is the second time Epping St John’s has hosted a showcase. We are looking to provide young people with the opportunity to experience an authentic audition process and seek to welcome students of all experience to participate. They all did themselves very proud and lots of parents came to say thank-you for the work we are doing to expand music at Epping St John’s. The night showed just a hint of what is to come; we have big plans.

“We are looking at exciting plans for our choir and have a wonderful group of dedicated students leading the next steps of our musical journey. We have already had a number of performance requests including the Epping Christmas Market and singing in church, as well as leading the music at the Carols on the Green event on Christmas Eve. Those singers who are taking part in these events will be rewarded with free tickets to attend future musical events such as Rock Assembly as a little thank you from the school for their commitment.”

Finley Jacobs-Roth, Year 12, said: “It was a full house with a good vibe; it was such a good show. Everyone worked hard and it came together on the night.

“It was an opportunity for whoever wanted to sing or dance to do so; it wasn’t about selecting the best of the best to perform, but about letting everyone get involved who wanted to.”
