Year 10s had their learning brought to life this morning with a fantastic, live production of A Christmas Carol. They were a fantastic audience and did us proud, as usual. https://t.co/hIAxalSTcw

Careers and Post 16

Careers and Post 16

At Epping St John’s we strongly believe in planning ahead for our students’ futures. We understand the importance of making informed decisions, so we therefore make sure our students have access to all the relevant information and opportunities to help make these decisions regarding their future.

Starting as early as Year 8 we encourage students to start to consider their strengths and the skills they have through Form time and PHSE lessons which prepares them for future careers and curriculum choices for their GCSE’s subjects. Students also have group sessions with Mrs Madden our Careers Manager about subject choices as well as taster classes and talks by external people.

We aim to help all students thoroughly investigate career opportunities through a range of educational experiences and we ensure that all students are given as much information and support as possible in order for them to make informed decisions about their GCSE choices and post 16/18 pathways.

During their KS4 years students will take part in a work experience placement. They will produce a good quality CV plus letters of application and have a Mock Interview with an external person from business or Industry. They will be guided in making applications for apprenticeships, colleges and six forms as well as having one to one interview with Mrs Madden.

During KS5 students have a second work experience opportunity linked to their future career choice, plus UCAS conventions and University trips as well as talks on different routes into careers, University, Apprenticeships and work.

All students have access to information on different careers and how they link to the subjects they are studying though dedicated lesson plans in each department across the school, college taster days and roads shows, inspirational talks, assemblies, apprenticeship workshops, plus much more. The school is also recognised for its careers work and holds the National Recognition of Quality award.

Our Careers Education and Guidance at Epping St John’s aims to prepare all students for their adult and working life by contributing to the development of the fully rounded individual. We firmly believe that students should always be given the opportunity to develop their knowledge of themselves and be able to utilise all the opportunities open to them. We have an excellent record of ensuring that our students secure Post 16 and Post 18 education places, resulting in the school having no NEET’s for the past few years.

We run many careers events throughout the year; if you are an employer/college/university/apprenticeship or a parent who would like to engage with the school.

We welcome requests from local or national providers to inform and advise our year 8 to year 13 students about their options for vocational and technical education routes. In the first instance, please complete a contact form for the attention of our careers manager:

Please contact Mrs Madden at the school
